Surviving life without sugar, artificial sweeteners and diet soda. Conquering addition for a better healthier me.
November 14, 2012
I'm Josie,
Mom, daughter, sister, friend, business owner, and sugar addicted stress eater..
I was 38 when I got pregnant with my daughter. The same week I got pregnant I had a skiing accident which led to a total ACL reconstruction of my left knee. The rigorous exercise program and healthy eating habits that I had followed for ten years was put on hold. In the years that followed, my fairy tale life of love, marriage, family, health and fitness, began to unravel around me. With that, I became a stress eater and sugar my culprit.
Fast forward … My daughter is 14 and I am 80 pounds over weight, I have tried every diet including the “Raw” diet without success. Today I am challenging myself to change; change my eating habits, change the way I feel about myself, CHANGE.... I will be blogging daily, starting with today, my 53rd birthday. I will share with you my challenges, some solutions I come up with, photos, recipes and each success. It is my hope and desire to make a difference in my life as well as the lives of everyone that visits me here. Thank you for supporting me. I am now publicly accountable to myself and each of my readers. Come back often to read and see how I evolve. My goal for this year is weight loss and wellness. My diet is simple, whole foods and nothing artificial! I am using experience, logic and you to keep me going.

I am on day 4 again sugar free and gluten free. I weighed myself hoping to rid myself of the damage done the last few weeks. I was 3 pounds up… That means I was probably higher the beginning of the week. 😉
I have a very busy day today but I hope to take some new pictures later today to show you how my seedlings are growing.
Posting everyday has became so challenging. Being sugar free, even harder. The last month or so has been like a roller coaster. I am starting over with my commitment. I have 3 days today sugar free. I have 5 months behind me. I haven’t lost a pound since the first 2 and 1/2 months other then to loose and gain 3-5 pounds. At least I’m starting at a lower weight then I was in November. Its a new day and a new commitment.
I need to find a way to bring something here everyday. I am making positive changing in my life all the time.
Happy Easter! I won’t be blogging today about how strong I stayed through this holiday like I did the previous ones this year. I anticipate blogging about recovering from today with my juicer tomorrow. Maybe I should rename my blog: “confessions of a sugar addict”. 🙂
I’m making chocolate covered strawberries. I’ll add pictures in a Part 2 post later today. It won’t be too bad. Mixed fresh pineapple and strawberries on a platter lined with chocolate dipped ones.
I’m working on them now so I’ll post part 2 later.
PART 2
What a beautiful day. I took a vacation from life for a few hours. A small family gathering with 11 people.
My daughter dipped the Strawberries. I love any excuse to spend time with her.
I pulled out the juicer yesterday. I can’t believe it has been in the cabinet for months. My juicer is the type of juicer that separates the pulp from the juice and I really don’t want to loose all that fiber so instead of using suggestions like adding the separated pulp to soups, I just put away, until yesterday. I made a carrot, celery, kale and pear smoothie. DELICIOUS! I have been eating really well again after wavering a bit. It’s Spring after all and I have a goal set. There is no better time to make changes then TODAY!
Here are some updates on my seedlings. My first time growing my vegetable plants from seed. I love this. Transplanting the seedlings will be the next step. I started with the basil this morning and I only got about a quarter of them done. Some of the larger leaves you see here are broccoli and brussel sprouts which I bought at a nursery while driving through Connecticut the other day. I just couldn’t resist. There are also pepper plants that I am taking caring of for someone. I think I’ll be giving a lot of plants away. 🙂
It seems as though my daily blog has become more of a weekly blog. I keep promising myself to change that. I am still working on a November 14th, 2011 – November 14th, 2012 commitment to make positive changes!
There seems to be a lot of awareness about the health hazards of sugar lately. “Dr. Sanjay Gupta reports on new research showing that beyond weight gain, sugar can take a serious toll on your health, worsening conditions ranging from heart disease to cancer.” See it here. CBS Reports
I saw this picture on Facebook, re-posted from “The Sweaty Betties”. It really says it all about what we drink.
