I haven’t let the holiday’s throw me off and I am sticking firm to my commitment.

Two nights ago, I had a craving for Japanese food and I sort of decided that I could have the brown rice California Rolls without swaying from my eating plan.. Instead of ordering one,  I ordered 3.  I never should have had 3.  I haven’t been eating anything that isn’t plain and the very tiny bit of soy sauce I used caused a physical reaction. It’s interesting what we put in our bodies that’s harmful. Tons of it all the time. I had a craving last night for diet coke.. Didn’t have one but I wanted one.

Thanks to my sister Virginia, I came across this link that may be helpful for some.

“We all want to enjoy our favorite holiday foods, but studies show that many of us will pick up an extra pound or two as we nosh our way through the season. That’s a weight gain that often doesn’t go away in the New Year and lead to major weight creep over time.”

Planning for tomorrow’s dinner: I am making Christmas Eve Dinner so I can control how healthy I cook the fish dishes but Christmas day is a different story. 2 of my brothers are making homemade pasta.. So I will bring my healthy “comfort food”. I have a couple of sisters who are Vegan so I offered to bring a Marinara Sauce.

Problem solved. I’m bringing my own.

I got up yesterday after a holiday party and I felt really good. Normally I would have felt really awful because I would have undoubtably eaten to much and I definitely would have had a sugar hang over. It doesn’t matter what your addiction is, they all make you feel really bad about your self. I was delighted to feel great; who wouldn’t be.

I am not focusing on the scale although I will say that changing my eating habits has been paying off. I am 18 pounds lighter and I owe it to changing what I am eating.

Very true! Eating healthy has a lot more benefits than the scale showing a lower number, tho’ that one is good itself. When I eat poorly, I feel bad physically. Also, my emotional and mental capacities are affected too. These are important for being productive and successful. I need to eat healthy for this reason alone. Thanks for the inspiration!! You are doing great.ReplyCancel

Tonight was my nephew JP’s annual Birthday Christmas party celebration. It’s has become a festive family tradition for 13 years now. Lot’s food and spirits and laughter. This is not a party that caters to anyone watching their weight so I knew I was completely on my own. 30 minutes before we were leaving, I prepared a full dinner for myself from leftovers I had made the night before. My very healthy version of Austrian style pork loin, red cabbage and parsley potatoes. I ate it before we left and then I grabbed one of my raw fruit and nut bars and threw it in my bag in case I needed to eat something while dessert was being served.

As I suspected, there wasn’t one dish I could eat that would be on my eating plan. Loosing weight doesn’t happen if you don’t put in the work. There is always an excuse to wait until tomorrow but changing it tomorrow never comes unless you start changing it today.

I often leave my camera home now while attending family parties because I always have so many images I am sorting or editing already. I decided to bring her along this time so I could occupy myself while everyone else was eating and drinking. Besides food and drinks, there are always lots of beautiful little ones there. Here are two of my favorite pictures of the night along with our visit from Santa Claus.

Occupying yourself with camera while everyone is eating is an excellent idea, Josie! I’ll definitely use this trick!ReplyCancel

Thanks for posting these photos. This reminds me of how we grew up always being in the presence of baked goods. Sugar, sugar, sugar. I’m surprised we’re not all diabetic. But anyway, great job! Very smart idea of keeping yourself absorbed in the photography. That’s a thin persons mentality.ReplyCancel

oh, my gosh, Josie, thank you. Beautiful post and the photos are so delicious I could take a bite out of them! I too love that you refer to your camera as “her.” “She” did a fantastic job creating beautiful memories for “her” family:-)ReplyCancel

Beautiful photos! I like how you refer to your camera as “her”. And what great willpower! I definitely would’ve scoffed down one of those delicious looking cookies! Good for you. 🙂ReplyCancel

I guess we can “change it now” or “eat it now.” Thanks for sharing your story of discipline and encouragement. Very inspiring for me…ReplyCancel

Posting everyday is presenting challenges of it’s own. I am going to try to do better. I must do better! I made a promise to myself and to you.

I’m still going strong at 33 days. It feels great to be sugar free and artificial free.

One of my old staples for a night time snack has always been salt free rice cakes from a popular brand and peanut butter with a tiny bit of all fruit jelly to satisfy my crunch craving. I have been staying away from them because of the sugar in the peanut butter.  This week, I had one twice. I think it’s better to grab that when the going gets tuff. Raw almond butter would be a better choice if the peanut butter isn’t natural.

I had a pleasant surprise in my garden today when I went out into my backyard. I found some romaine lettuce, two kinds of parsley and some thyme growing strong right through the leaves; it’s December 16th. Crazy!

I’ve been getting a raw almond butter with flaxseed and using that on my toast for breakfast. I cut out eggs for awhile. I was eating too many of those.ReplyCancel

I made it 30 days. I wish I could say that there was a certain number of days or months to go before I would be cured of my sugar addition but the truth is, there is no cure. Lifestyle change on daily basis is the best I can come up with.

I went to my daughters Chorus Concert tonight and afterwards we thought we would grab a bite out before we went home. I was really in the mood for Japanese. Now this where it gets kind of tricky for me because I am not a diet with specific guidelines other then whole and natural foods. I thought I would take a chance with  a brown rice California Roll. I couldn’t be sure if the crab was real or not but I ordered it anyway. I actually ordered  2 brown rice California Rolls. They were very good and very filling.

My next challenge will be committing to a real exercise routine.
