Stayed tuned for Day 66: 🙂
Surviving life without sugar, artificial sweeteners and diet soda. Conquering addition for a better healthier me.
I woke up this morning thinking about what Martin Luther King Jr. means to me and to so many people. This can hardly be summed up in a few words. I watched his “I have a Dream Speech” this morning and I was once again, so moved! I HAVE A DREAM SPEACH August 28th, 1963 Here are a few words about Martin Luther King Jr. that I got from the University of Denver Student News Paper. University of Denver student News Paper ” hope for a future filled with justice and acceptance for all” HOPE, JUSTICE AND ACCEPTANCE “change and progression” CHANGE AND PROGESS “Martin Luther King Jr. means “Inspiration” to me.” INSPIRATION INSPIRATION, HOPE, CHANGE, JUSTICE, ACCEPTANCE and PROGRESS are words I live by in my life and here on Changingitnow.com What does Martin Luther King Jr. and these words mean to you? When I grocery shop, I am shopping for 3 people. My mom, my self and my daughter. I have to meet every body’s dietary wants and needs. Today my grocery basket was full of only foods that this whole foodie would eat. I normally have some processed foods and bread items too, (for my family) but not today. My basket was filled with dried beans, (chic peas, split peas, and kidney beans) fruit, vegetables, natural peanut butter, potatoes, garlic, brown brown rice, some Lemon Lara Bars and… The point is, it’s starts with your grocery basket and then what you have in your kitchen. The one night I went off my plan, I would have eaten all the sugary items in the house, but I didn’t have any, so I didn’t eat any. I can’t forget, that I’m not just an over eater, I have a sugar addition. I can honestly say that after, 2 months, I feel as though I have changed me eating habits, but with any addiction, it’s a slippery slope. Side note, I had found the Lemon LaraBars at this grocery store and I really like them but they stopped carrying them. I went twice to the manager, different managers each time, and requested they carry the lemon bars again. Much to my delight, I saw them from a half an isle away. It often works when you ask for what you want and don’t give up. I have often thought to myself, ‘If I had only taken care of myself the last several months, I would be in a better place today.’ Now I can say that I am feeling much better then I did 2 months ago. I haven’t had a diet soda, added sugar, sugary foods or anything artificial in 2 months. Almost 100% perfectly. I feel good so it must be having some positive effects on my body. 🙂 The beauty of making a life change is that it makes it easier to reach your goal without feeling like your on a diet. It becomes more about the life change and you’re overall ultimate goal of better health, then a diet. I am so looking forward to the results after my ‘first’ year but I try not to focus on the daily obsession of the scale. I have to admit that I like the pleasant surprise when I do get on it, and putting on cloths that I can’t wear anymore because they are too big is definitely a great feeling. Jamie Eslinger was doing a one year challenge and blogging about it. It inspired me to do the same. Her blog is The Promise 365. Now she is coaching other women to keep their own personal commitments for a year. I am always grateful for positive inspiration. I made another batch of Lentil Soup today. This one came out so much better because I put a lot more ginger, garlic and celery in it. The aroma was amazing while it was cooking and the soup was filled with everything healthy. It tasted great and felt like it could cure a cold. Here is a link to my first posting about Lentils. Just bump up the ginger and garlic and I used 3 stalks of celery instead of two. This soup feels very cleansing to me.
