Superbowl Sunday Healthy Snacking Tips: Day 80

First of all, I can’t believe I have 80 days today. This an accomplishment for me. A sugar addict without sugar binging. Yes it feels good!

Super Bowl Sunday.. Another day associated with snacking that I am putting in the Holiday Category. I will be participating in this years celebration for sure. THE NY GIANTS are in the Superbowl. Being a New Jersey/New Yorker, I am right in there with the rest of the fans routing for the Giants. But just because it’s a ‘snacking holiday’, that doesn’t mean we can’t have  great time and still take care of ourselves by giving our bodies satisfying healthy snacks instead poison. Ok, poison sounds alittle harsh, but that’s really what it is.

Here is a link to some great healthy alternatives to your Superbowl party menu from “FORKS OVER KNIVES”.

Take a minute and watch their trailer. Very informative if your sitting on the fence about eating healthy as a lifestyle. FORKS OVER KNIVES

My guacamole is easy and really good too.

As always, I cook by eye and taste…

3 or 4  Ripe Avocados

1 Tomato

1 Onion

Fresh Lemon

Garlic cloves

Cilantro

Corn Chips

Instructions:

Mash the Avocado (I like it a little chunky)

Dice the tomato

Chop the onion and garlic

Mix all together and squeeze the lemon over it.

Chop cilantro and add to mixture.

Mix together again and serve with some of your favorite corn chips.

Glad you liked to post and shared it. I totally believe the doctors in this film, and read the book, “the China Study,” that it was based on, too. I do struggle with processed foods and alcohol, though. Maybe someday… I just hope I don’t have to get sick first to give it all up. But, as Laura says, exercise is the key to being able to indulge a LITTLE and once in a while.ReplyCancel

I have to try that with the rice cakes. Avocado is a great source of fiber too. But mostly, I LOVE guacamole! and chips. Unfortunately, I eat too many chips. So the rice cakes sounds like a good alternative. Thank you both!ReplyCancel

My guacamole recipe is very similar. I use lime and add a small jalapeno.
Last week I made a batch and used rice cakes (plain whole grain brown rice cakes – salt free) instead of chips. It was great!
It’s a “minute” recipe if you have a food processor.
Just put everything but the avocados in the processor and pulse a few times until finely chopped. Then add the avocados and pulse once or twice and – finished!

Thank you for adding this. I’ve used lime too and you really make it so simple with the food processor.ReplyCancel
